A women's Liége-Bastogne-Liége

One of the longest running Monuments for men, now has a women’s race. The first ever Liége-Bastogne-Liége for women is tomorrow Sunday 23 April. A women’s peloton of 24 teams will line up for the final race after a super-week of Ardennes classics.

CANYON//SRAM Racing will field a roster of Trixi Worrack, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Mieke Kröger, Tiffany Cromwell, Hannah Barnes and Alena Amialiusik.

Amialiusik said the character of the race is different to the first two Ardennes classics (Amstel Gold and Fléche-Wallonne) that saw an identical podium result for both races.

“We did a course recon yesterday and I like this course. It’s always up and down, and then the four climbs all come more or less within the last third of the race.”

“The first climb, Côte de le Vecquée is longer than what we’ve had in one of the other Ardennes classics and it makes for an exciting race. I think the Côte de la Redoute after 100km will be key. Already there were a lot of people on the side of the road on that climb, so come race-day it’s going to be a great atmosphere there. Our team is looking forward to tomorrow.”
