Alena Amialiusik continued her impressive performances at the Tour de France avec Zwift when she finished third in today’s fourth stage. After winning the Most Combative award for a late solo breakaway on stage three, the CANYON//SRAM Racing rider kept her offensive style to take third place behind stage winner Marlen Reusser (SDW).

There was a lot of excitement around stage four since the route announcement in October last year where it was revealed the stage would have four gravel sectors.. As the peloton raced from Troyes to Bar-Sur-Aube, the front group slowly reduced to less than 30 riders. Alena’s attack with 27km remaining, was countered by Reusser a few minutes later who then went solo to the finish line. Behind, Alena was in another move of three riders which would come into the finish to sprint for the remaining podium places.  

“We had a plan to make a hard race and always bring our leaders into good position on each gravel sector. I think we did that very well with Kasia and Elise well-positioned,” explained Alena.

“We had three in the front group so I had to do as much as possible for them. We are quite happy with how we did the race and my third place can be a bonus, especially for me after a lot of work.”

Alena added, “I enjoyed the gravel sectors and I think it was a good thing having them in the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. It helped build excitement and challenges, and added another dimension to the tour.”

“Third on the stage is a big thing for me. I am happy and satisfied. Of course I wanted to win, but a podium here is a good achievement and I can be proud of myself,” finished Alena.

HOW TO FOLLOW

Ahead of stage five, Kasia Niewiadoma holds her third position in the overall. The team sits second in the team classification before the 175km-long stage. The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift can be followed on Twitter with #TDFF and broadcast daily to more than 190 countries.
