CANYON//SRAM GENERATION AT VUELTA ANDALUCIA

CANYON//SRAM Generation will finish its first half of the season at Vuelta Ciclista Andalucia Ruta del Sol in Spain. The stage race from today, Wednesday, 31 May, to Sunday, 4 June, covers close to 9000m of elevation despite five relatively short stages. Several opportunities for bonus seconds on offer on every stage are anticipated to create close and exciting racing.

The team’s roster will be Justyna Czapla, Agua Marina Espinola Salinas, Nesrine Houili, Diane Ingabire, Daniela Schmidsberger and Llori Sharpe.

The stages cover demanding parcours with a mix of undulating and mountain stages, including a summit finish to Cómpeta on stage two. For Algerian national road and time trial champion, Nesrine, she hopes it will be an opportunity to look for breakaways.

“I’ve had a good preparation for this tour with several race days in the last month,” said Nesrine, who had seven race days in May with CANYON//SRAM Generation.

“This will be my first stage race with the team, so I want to work hard to help my teammates and finish the tour in a good position. For some of the stages, especially stages one and five, I believe there is a chance that a breakaway can go ahead and get over some of the climbs ahead of the peloton. It’s a good opportunity for me to try and be in a breakaway in order to be there in the final if it comes to a sprint.”

Teammates Justyna and Diane recently finished racing the six days of the UCI 2.PRO Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour with the World Tour Team, CANYON/SRAM Racing, and will look to take their experiences into this week’s UCI 2.1 race. The tour marks the end of the first half of the race season for CANYON//SRAM Generation before many of the riders return home to compete in their national road championships, including Nesrine and Diane, who will look to defend their national champion titles in Algeria and Rwanda, respectively.
