CANYON//SRAM GENERATION BACK IN ACTION WITH DOUBLE-HEADER WEEKEND
After a small break in the season, CANYON//SRAM Generation is back racing this weekend with back-to-back one-day races. The team will race Groupama Ladies Race Slovakia on Saturday, 23 July, followed by UCI 1.2 Visegrad 4 Ladies Series Pannonhalma in Hungary.
The team’s roster will be complete with six riders. Ricarda Bauernfeind, Agua Marina Espinola Salinas, Alia Mansor, Antonia Niedermaier, Valentine Nzayisenga, and Llori Sharpe will all take to the start line.
Ricarda comes off a string of successes after winning the German U23 national titles in both the road race and ITT and strong performances at the European Championships but admits she is returning from a small break.
“The last weeks with all the championships were not that easy. Not only physically but also mentally. So after the European Championships, I felt not as fresh as some weeks ago and enjoyed some recovery days,” explains Ricarda.
“For this weekend, my shape isn‘t that good, but I‘m looking forward to seeing my teammates after a long time. Maybe this time, I can be the support rider like my teammates did at the beginning of the season for me.”
Teammate Llori says, “As it relates to distance, both races are under 100km, so nothing too long and given their hilly profile, I’d say the team can for sure race them well and achieve some great results. Today we will recon GP Slovakia, giving each of us a better idea of how to approach the race. Overall, both races should be a good way to kick off the second half of the season.”
For all of the riders, the second half of 2022 is an opportunity to continue their development and solidify their learnings.
Sharpe adds, “The goals I established at the start of the season have remained the same. I aim to learn and soak in as much as possible to further grow and develop in competitive cycling and contribute to the team in whatever way I can. As a unit, we’ve been flourishing since the start, and I hope we keep that momentum going to end the season on a high note,” adds Llori.
