It was a 26.9km long ITT stage today at WWT Emakumeen XXXI Bira in Gazteiz-Vitoria. The stage and new tour leader went to Annemiek Van Vleuten (MTS).
Hannah Barnes and Elena Cecchini both put in strong performances, finishing just outside the top ten on the stage.
“It was quite a tough course. Rolling, with a long drag in the middle and then a long, straight and flat finish with quite a bit of wind to throw into the mix,” described Alice Barnes after the stage.
“I feel I paced it fairly well and my split times showed that too. We have Elena in a good position on GC and we’ll look at how to play the remaining two stages,” added Barnes.
“They have all ridden quite well. Hannah and Elena especially today, and now it’s good to see Elena in a position on the general classification. The group is riding well together overall here and this is most pleasing,” said Director Sportif Ronny Lauke.
