GP FEMININ DE CHAMBERY FOR CANYON//SRAM GENERATION
CANYON//SRAM Generation will start its first UCI 1.1 race at tomorrow’s Grand Prix Féminin de Chambéry in France. The team’s roster is Ricarda Bauernfeind, Agua Marina Espinola Salinas, Valentine Nzayisenga and Llori Sharpe.
The race starts in Chambéry-Le-Vieux with two local laps of 8.5km followed by five laps of an 18.5km circuit. Each larger circuit covers three climbs: Côte de Voglans (2.2km long with an average of 6%), Côte de Maison Brûlée (1.8km long with an average of 4.6%) and the short but steep Côte Ruberty (450m with an average gradient of 8%). In total, the 109km race has close to 1900m of elevation and is set to test the climbers of the peloton.
“I’m really excited to race tomorrow. I’m feeling stronger every week and I did some good training sessions at home, so now I just need to keep recovering from the trip. I’m confident I can do a good race for the team,” says Agua Marina who just returned from one week at home in Paraguay.
The CANYON//SRAM Generation team started its 2022 season with a focus on Spanish national cup races as it deliberately built its season towards these UCI one-day races from tomorrow onwards, and later UCI stage races.
“It was good to have a weekend off from racing, allowing us to recover from the first block of races and reset a little. Some of our team were able to travel home which I really appreciated and enjoyed. It was important before heading to this busy part of the season, especially as it will be the most challenging for all of us.”
For the race tomorrow, Agua Marina says the team will aim to build on its experiences and is hopeful of a good result.
“I think the best would be to perform at our highest capabilities because if we all can do that, we can expect really good results for each of us and for the team.”
