ANTONIA NIEDERMAIER JOINS CANYON//SRAM GENERATION AT GP CHAMBÉRY
CANYON//SRAM Generation’s squad for Sunday’s Grand Prix Féminin de Chambéry is Selam Gerefiel, Nastya Kolesava, Maddie Le Roux, Jule Märkl, Antonia Niedermaier, Awen Roberts and Daniela Schmidsberger.
The 112km course starts with two 8km circuits around Chambéry-Le-Vieux before proceeding to five laps of a hillier 19km circuit. It’s the first round of the FDJ Women’s Elite French Cup, with two World Tour Teams, fifteen Continental Teams, and five national teams taking to the start line. With over 1800 metres of elevation, the winner will likely be decided by the best climbers of the day.
RIDER QUOTES
Maddie Le Roux: “It’s been a few weeks now in Girona with my new teammates, and I’m finally starting to find my feet. I’ve also been enjoying the rides we do together, as it keeps the morale and motivation high, even if we start together and then do different interval sessions.”
“I’ve raced GP Chambéry the last two years, and from my experience, it’s quite a tough race; it’s a very narrow and technical route, but it’s not flat, which is the exciting part for me. It’s no secret I love climbing, so I hope to use this particular detail of the race to my advantage. It’ll be full-on from the start as we will already go into a few switchbacks within the first few metres before climbing back up to the start. This part of the circuit will spread the peloton out and make positioning crucial. It’s important to pack the concentration mentality for this race.”
“We’re going with a strong team, so I have no doubt we’ll be part of the instigators making it a hard race. Hopefully, we can build on what we did in the previous races regarding teamwork and communication. I’m excited to see what we can do together.”
“We still have to have our race meeting on what my role will be on Sunday for the team, but I’m hoping I can play a part in the mountain points selection, stay with my teammates to the front of the peloton and do my job to the best of my abilities. My main goal is to improve my positioning and, most of all, enjoy the race opportunity.”
