AWEN ROBERTS TAKES A CAREER-BEST RESULT AT GP EIBAR
Awen Roberts took her best-ever result at yesterday’s GP Ciudad de Eibar in Spain. The CANYON//SRAM Generation rider finished the UCI 1.PRO race in seventh place. Awen joined a select breakaway before the challenging final at the top of the 4km-long Arrate climb, with an average gradient of no less than 11%. It’s the 19-year-old’s first season in the elite category and she was delighted to take her first UCI top-ten finish for CANYON//SRAM Generation.
RIDER REACTIONS
Awen Roberts: “The race was full of attacks with a lot of riders wanting to break free before the final climb. I was very watchful in the race to make sure that I didn’t miss any important breaks. There was one very dangerous attack with all the big teams in the group and I knew that I needed to be there. It was a good group and we worked together to stay away. On the final climb I felt good and I was holding a good pace up the climb but coming to the end I ran out of steam. I kept battling until the end and came seventh on a hard race day. I’m happy with that.”
