KASIA NIEWIADOMA POWERS TO 8TH IN PARIS OLYMPIC ROAD RACE
CANYON//SRAM Racing had seven riders competing in yesterday’s Paris Olympic Games road race. Kasia Niewiadoma (Poland) was the best-placed rider in eighth place.
A thrilling battle started before the peloton entered the three finishing circuits in central Paris with constant fireworks of attacks from several countries. Chloé Dygert (USA) and Elise Chabbey (Switzerland) were involved in a crash on the circuit, and a forced bike change thwarted their opportunities as the lead group and the race for the medals broke clear from the peloton. Niewiadoma put in a brave attack to try to get across to the leaders on the second circuit, but was forced to be in the second chase group and crossed the line in eighth place. Chloé finished in fifteenth with Elise in eighteenth. Antonia Niedermaier (Germany) finished in the main peloton at +5:00 minutes with Agnieszka Skalniak (Poland) in the next group to cross the line. Diane Ingabire (Rwanda) and Ese Ukpeseraye (Nigeria) were part of a group of riders who officials withdrew from the race during the circuits.
