READY FOR LIÈGE-BASTOGNE-LIÈGE
CANYON/SRAM Racing’s roster for Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday, 21 April, is Ricarda Bauernfeind, Neve Bradbury, Elise Chabbey, Kasia Niewiadoma and Soraya Paladin. The team goes into the race with a spring in its step after Kasia’s victory at La Flèche Wallonne two days ago.
CANYON/SRAM Racing did a reconnaissance on Thursday of a parcours that remains largely unchanged with the exception of an additional climb compared to last year’s edition. From Bastogne to Liège, the peloton takes on 147km and nine climbs, eight of which come in the final two hours of racing.
The climbs: Côte de Saint-Roch, Côte de Wanne, Côte de Stockeu, Côte de la Haute-Levée, Col du Rosier, Côte de Desnié, Côte de la Redoute, Côte des Forges, and Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. The race is the final of the Ardennes Classics and the team is looking to finish the one-day spring classic season on a high.
Kasia Niewiadoma: “The team is in a good mood. It’s nice going to the end of the spring campaign with a win and podium place already in our pocket. Sunday is a race, and we want to seize our last opportunity to achieve a great result in the spring. Like most other teams, our team is strong and committed, and we’re looking forward to racing.”
“There are some teams that don’t yet have the result or victory that they expected. So, many teams will be very keen to make it a hard race and try their chances in different ways.”
“The main action will happen from La Redoute and from there on. We will see how much the weather affects the race, but everyone will be prepared for a very hard race. Liège-Bastogne-Liège is renowned for its climbs, but there are also a lot of technical descents. I expect and hope for a tough race and that our team is fighting for the victory.”
