Lisa moves into yellow after second in ITT

Lisa Klein stormed to second place today in the morning individual time trial (ITT) stage 4a at Healthy Ageing Tour in Winsum, The Netherlands. Finishing two seconds behind stage winner Ellen van Dijk (TFS), Klein now takes over the yellow leader’s jersey with two stages remaining.

“I felt good this morning. I had a target to follow, that I’d agreed with our Performance Manager Lars Teutenberg about, given the wind conditions we had today. I was receiving some time splits during the race but I just kept to my schedule,” said Klein after the podium ceremony.

“I left it all out there. It was a good ITT. I had the goal of going for victory in this stage. I admit it was a high goal but that’s what I set myself. I did two small mistakes: one on the straight believe it or not, and then one in the corner. The rest was really good so I’m happy with that. I’m still learning and improving, and for the first ITT of the season, I can be satisfied.”

Two tough stages remaining

“The conditions this morning were really cold and tough for everyone. This afternoon we have another road stage and the wind will be just as strong so we know that it’s going to split and be a hard 74km stage,” commented Klein.

“Now I have the yellow jersey which is of course nice! I’m looking forward to these two stages, a tough battle, and some exciting racing.”

Alice Barnes finishes sixth in the ITT

Klein’s teammate, Alice Barnes finished sixth in the stage and moves into fifth in the general classification, one minute and one second behind Klein.

“The ITT went well for me. I had a goal of what power I wanted to aim for, and I went over that which was a good sign. The wind changed directions a lot and mostly it was a cross wind, so it was making holding a good position on the bike a little more difficult.”

“I’m feeling strong this tour and hoping now I can help Lisa hold yellow for the rest of the tour,” said Alice Barnes.
