Lisa wins the prologue
CANYON//SRAM Racing’s Lisa Klein last night put a mark on her palmares taking her first win in a UCI 2.1 race in the prologue opener at Festival Elsy Jacobs stage race. Klein’s teammates Alexis Ryan and Alena Amialiusik finished eighth and twelfth respectively.
The current German road champion said the 2.8km course was quite technical. “It was almost the same as last year apart from the last corner that had changed. There were quite a few corners to negotiate. I knew that I made some mistakes last year but I was focused not to do the same again this year,” said Klein after the prologue.
The 21 year old she had prepared well this week for the prologue. “I have trained well to be ready for tonight. I said in my head this was a good chance to try to go for a win. Last year I was good at this race, but when I saw the start list I was thinking that maybe the field was stronger this year. I took yesterday off with a light ride only, I took some mental recovery and visited my parents. I felt I needed it and with that and my training this week I think I prepared well. It didn’t stop it hurting though! But for sure I had good legs, I could already feel in the warm-up,” added Klein.
Klein now holds the leader’s jersey with a slim lead over Amy Pieters (DLT) who was second in the prologue.
