Stage two Rushden to Daventry

In a hotly contested stage two at the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot finished sixth behind stage winner and new tour leader Coryn Rivera (SUN). A long solo breakaway was the only movement in the stage until the first of two ascents of Newnham Hill.

After an aggressive attack from Kasia Niewiadoma the peloton quickly split on the short steep climb but came back together going into the climb the final time. First an attack from Elisa Longo Borghini, followed by Ferrand-Prévot, was then countered by Alena Amialiusik, creating an 18-rider group that would race away to the finish.

Ferrand-Prévot finished sixth on the stage, “I felt good today, especially on the climbs. The sprint finish was a little hectic and dangerous at times. But I think our team is racing well and we look forward to another stage tomorrow.”
