Strong time trial performances at Gracia Orlová
CANYON//SRAM Racing finished with three riders in the top ten placegetters in the third stage of Gracia Orlová tour yesterday. The 13.5km individual time trial stage was won by Ann-Sophie Duyck (BEL) in a time of 17 minutes and 56 seconds. Alena Amialiusik was 14 seconds slower to finish in fifth.
On the double stage day the team was looking to avenge for losing the yellow leaders jersey on Friday’s mountain stage in Lichnov. Amialiusik put in a strong time trial performance on the out and back flat circuit. “I tried my best today. My power was good and I was strong but I didn’t take enough seconds out of the yellow jersey.”
Mieke Kröger held the fastest time for most of the day, and ultimately would finish in 6th position. While British rider Hannah Barnes started to show her time trial consistency by finishing 8th, and 26 seconds behind the winner. Elena Cecchini finished just outside the top ten.
The afternoon stage was won solo by Pernille Mathiesen. CANYON//SRAM Racing were launching several attacks and the break that would stay away had Barbara Guarischi representing. Cecchini summed up the race “It was a frustrating race because we saw that the other teams chased us rather than making BTC Ljubljana do any work. Everyone was racing for second or third.”
Amialiusik finished 9th on the stage, the first of the peloton. She goes into the final stage in Orlová today third on the general classification and 1 minute 50 seconds behind.
