Antonia Niedermaier Germany
From a ski mountaineering background, young German Antonia Niedermaier has a history of excelling at endurance sports. After finishing high school in 2022, she had her first season in the pro peloton racing for CANYON//SRAM Generation. On her 16th UCI race day, she had won two stages and the overall at the 8-day stage race, Tour de l’Ardéche Féminin. Antonia was promoted to the Women’s World Team, CANYON//SRAM Racing in 2023 and her dramatic rise to the top didn’t stop.
Following surgery for a knee injury in the early year, Antonia only started racing in May and less than a month later won the mountain and youth classifications, and took third overall at CIC-Tour Féminin Pyrénées. In the fifth stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne, the young powerhouse outsmarted, descended faster and eventually outrode the then road world champion to take what was her biggest career victory at the tender age of twenty.
Not to be done with stopping there, Antonia won the U23 Individual Time Trial World Championship title in Glasgow, claiming her first-ever rainbow jersey.
Antonia will continue to combine racing ski mountaineering during winter and road cycling in the spring to autumn months.
Antonia says, “CANYON//SRAM Generation gave me a lot of things in 2022. I learned a lot about how to race and the different race tactics. Coming from a ski mountaineering background, it was important to learn all these things in smaller races with less pressure from the outside. It was an excellent year to get into this sport. It was also important to see how the pro cycling sport works and to learn a lot of new stuff.
I love to go on my limit every day, again and again and I really have enjoyed racing some of the biggest stage races on the calendar. My goal in 2024 is to do an excellent job for the team and reach some more good results in races.”
