Joëlle Messemer Germany

A top performer in both junior track and road racing, Joëlle Messemer is now making her transition into the elite peloton with Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto Generation.

Joëlle’s cycling journey began in 2016 when her mother entered her in the recreational category of Eschborn-Frankfurt, a prestigious event that features a UCI Men’s WorldTour race and takes place annually around their hometown in Southern Germany on May 1.

“I had so much fun during the race that I went to a local club in Frankfurt and started competing in races.”

Her newfound passion for cycling quickly grew, and in 2019, Joëlle moved further away to boarding sports school in Kaiserslautern, to pursue the sport more seriously. In 2024, she claimed two German junior national titles in the road race and hill climb, along with two European junior titles in the individual and team pursuits on the track. Over the course of her junior career, she has represented Germany at both European and World Championships on multiple occasions. The 18-year-old has long dreamed of joining a professional team.

“Since I started cycling I always wanted to win races and earn my money with my sport, but this year I really decided to try my way into professional cycling. I worked really hard and tried my best during the season and after some setbacks I am very happy to sign my first pro contract with CANYON//SRAM Generation.”

Her primary goals in making the leap to the professional ranks are to develop as a rider, gain experience in high-level races, and improve her skills, particularly in sprinting and positioning.

“I also want to learn how to work effectively as part of a team at this level. I’ll contribute by working hard, being a team player, and using my strengths, like climbing and time trial, to help us reach our goals. I’m also eager to learn and bring a positive attitude to every race and training session.”

Joëlle follows in the footsteps of fellow German talents Antonia Niedermaier, Ricarda Bauernfeind and Justyna Czapla, all of whom now ride for the Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto WorldTour team but began their professional careers with the Generation team. She also joins Jule Märkl on the Generation team, who made the transition from the junior ranks last year.
