Maria Martins Portugal

As the first Portuguese cyclist to race in the Women’s WorldTour and the first Portuguese female track cyclist to win a World Championship medal, Maria Martins, commonly known as Tata, has firmly established herself as a trailblazer in her nation.

She has built an impressive career across both road and track disciplines, showcasing her versatility and physical capabilities with strong performances in both. On the road, she competed in the first three editions of Paris Roubaix, secured a national road race title and achieved a fifth place finish at Classic Brugge-De Panne in 2023. Her track achievements are anchored by a bronze in the scratch race at the 2020 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and gold in the same event at the 2023 European Championships.

Further cementing her place in history, Tata became the first track cyclist from Portugal to compete in the Olympics, making her debut at Tokyo 2020. After a period focused on Paris 2024, she now turns her attention back to the road with Canyon//SRAM Zondacrypto.

“I see myself performing in the sprint and fast races during the classics and other races where I can contribute my abilities to the team’s success. I’m looking forward to growing as an athlete, developing my weak points, exploring my strong ones, and using them to get my first professional victory.”

More firsts for Tata and Portuguese cycling are sure to come.
