SHARI SPRINTS TO 3RD IN DENMARK
Shari Bossuyt sprinted to third place on today’s opening stage of the Tour of Scandinavia in Helsingør, Denmark. The CANYON//SRAM Racing rider was positioned in the final 4km by teammate Sarah Roy and dropped off with 500m remaining.
“The whole team rode well today from start to finish. It was a hard and active race, but we could see that it would come to a sprint. The laps were a bit hectic, and the finish was already at a high speed. Roy was very strong in the final and did a massive turn in the last part to bring me to a good position. I had to find my own path in the last 500m, but I managed it. I saw a gap and just went for it and could finish third,” said Shari.
“I might have started my sprint a bit late, but I’m still happy with the third place. I think it’s a nice way to start the tour, and we aim to keep riding like this in the next days.”
After the opening stage, Shari sits third in the general classification behind stage winner and tour leader Marianne Vos (JVW) and second in the youth classification behind Megan Jastrab (DSM).
Tomorrow’s second stage is expected to be a windswept affair as the peloton races on the east coast of Sweden from Mollösund to Strömstad.
