Trixi Worrack finished third in today’s Ronde van Drenthe after being in a four rider break for the last 60 kilometres of the Dutch classic. Worrack claimed a podium place in the sprint to the line behind winner Chantal Blaak (DLT) and Gracie Elvin (OGE).

After the race Worrack explained:

“I did an attack towards the end of the second cobble section and by that stage the peloton was more or less single file. My gap didn’t stick but that long cobble section was quite hard and there were big splits in the peloton. Between the second and third cobble sections RaboLiv was really making the pace so that the second group didn’t join us again. At that point we were still a fair size group of 30 riders or so. It was really fast over the third cobble stone section, so nothing much happened. But as soon as we came off it Van der Breggen attacked. I was in about sixth position, and I saw her attack and Blaak then Elvin went with it, so I knew I needed to be there.”

With four major teams represented Worrack explained the break was destined to work. “No one of our teams had a really good sprinter behind us and that’s why it worked well. No one could sit on and say ‘Ah I’m waiting for my sprinter.’ I thought my best chance was in a sprint and I never saw a good opportunity to attack anyway. I know Blaak is fast but I was confident I could at least be on the podium in a sprint.”

Today’s result is the German National Road Champion’s third podium already for season 2016 and since her focus has been building form for the hills she is pleased with her results so far. “Normally I want to be better in the climbing races this year so I have focused my training on that, but right now I’m going good in the flat races! Next week I will see how I am in the climbs at Trofeo Binda.”

Back at the race hotel Directeur Sportif Ronny Lauke commented on the second UCI Women’s WorldTour race. “We were present, we helped make the race, and we showed that we were there. I think there’s much more to come from our team in the coming weeks and months, but that we already have some results in our pocket, I think it gives the girls and the team some confidence.”
