CANYON//SRAM GENERATION PREPARE FOR A NEW-LOOK VOLTA CICLISTA A CATALUNYA

CANYON//SRAM Generation is in its home race of the season when it starts the three-day Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Femenina tour on Friday, 7 June. The team’s roster is Diane Ingabire, Nastya Kolesava, Jule Märkl, Awen Roberts, Alice Towers and Ese Lovina Ukperesaye. In last year’s edition, a one-day national-level race near to Barcelona, Justyna Czapla finished in eighth place. The team has a season base in Girona and considers the tour a home race.

The three stages boast a mix of terrain, from an undulating stage one, to a queen stage two and a flatter stage three. The second stage with two Category 1 climbs to Toses and La Molina will be fiercely challenging and surely decisive for the general classification. Long held as a one-day race, Friday will mark  the first time the women’s race has reached UCI 2.1 status and becomes a tour. It’s also the first time that Alice Towers will lineup with CANYON//SRAM Generation.

RIDER QUOTES

Alice Towers: “It’s my first time with CANYON//SRAM Generation. I am really excited to be racing with the Generation team. I have experience racing, but still being young myself I’m excited to make new friends and work with my teammates to have a fun weekend. I would like to take lead and help guide the other riders and teach them some valuable things I’ve learned being part of the World Tour team.”

“I’m excited to race the second stage as it is very close to Andorra where I train a lot, and I know the roads well. I think a stage win/ good result is a very good possibility with the team and that’s definitely what I’ll be aiming for the weekend. It’s the first time I get to be a leader in a race like this so I’m also expecting to be learning myself how to look after myself and take responsibility in the races.”
