ANTONIA BEST YOUNG RIDER AND RICARDA IS 6TH ON THE STAGE
Ricarda Bauernfeind and Antonia Niedermaier again showed their climbing prowess, finishing in sixth and thirteenth place on the mountain stage six of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour es. Ricarda and Antonia moved up four and five places in the general classification.
After an aggressive stage with several breakaways, the peloton came back together at the base of the final 6.5 km-long climb, La Laguna Negra. The climb became one of attrition, with both Antonia and Ricarda climbing strongly to reinforce their status as the best young climbers in the world tour peloton.
RIDER REACTIONS
Antonia Niedermaier: “Unfortunately, we lost Kasia before the stage. It would have been really good to have her with us, but she was ill. We are making the most out of the situation. Ricarda and I could do something on the climb, and I think we can be happy with our overall performance. The feeling was quite good today. We are all tired, but it’s normal since it’s stage 6. We are motivated and will play our two GC cards all the way to the finish. We’ve been trying hard to be at our best. The last day is the queen stage, so we are really looking forward to this. I think everything will change there. Nothing is decided until the very end, so let’s see what we can do there with the team.”
