World champs ready for Vårgårda TTT

CANYON//SRAM Racing, the current team time trial (TTT) world champions, will race Postnord Vårgårda West Sweden TTT on Saturday 17 August, with a strong roster of Alena Amialiusik, Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Elena Cecchini, Lisa Klein and Alexis Ryan.

The TTT course has been changed for the first time in recent years, being shortened to 35.6km but retains the traditional long out-and-back section from Vårgårda to Herrljunga. With very few TTT races on the 2019 women’s calendar, the riders from CANYON//SRAM Racing are all looking forward to the TTT in Vårgårda.

“I think it’s fair to say we will be aiming for the podium. We are the world champions and even if I haven’t done a lot of time trials this year, I’ve been quite impressed with how my teammates have each improved in this speciality,” said Elena Cecchini.

“This has motivated me to train on my Speedmax TT bike after my injury two months ago, and I hope this training will result in a well-executed TTT. We all want to do a super performance!” continued Cecchini.

Alice Barnes added “This will be my first TTT since the world championships in Innsbruck last year, so it will bring back some good memories! I hope to put in a strong ride that means we’ll be able to stand on the podium together as a team.”

Both Hannah Barnes and Alena Amialiusik echoed their teammates opinions:

“I am so excited to race the TTT! It is one of my favourite disciplines and our goal is to just go fast as possible because if we win we can celebrate all together on the podium and that’s a special feeling,” said Alena Amialiusik.

“My goal is for us to win. We have a strong team, with five of us that were part of the world championship winning TTT team. We are all technically strong and this will give us an advantage too,” said Hannah Barnes.

The first team will start the TTT at 15:00CEST on Saturday 17 August. The following day, CANYON//SRAM Racing will line up in the Sweden Vårgårda road race with an identical roster. The 145.3km road race, with five gravel sectors in the first half of the race, and a hilly local circuit that includes a gravel sector in the second half of the race is bound to create some exciting racing.

“Sunday’s road race will be a fast and furious one!” said Elena Cecchini.. “I like the final finish circuit we do, and the gravel sections before we reach this will put even more pressure on the peloton. I can’t wait to make an unpredictable race with my team.”
